Over its history, the United States has made millions of coins. Most of the coins are used daily as circulating currency, while others are made as investment grade coins with a high content of silver or gold, such as the Silver Eagle.

The American Silver Eagle coin comes in 3 distinct versions. The first version of these coins is called the regular bullion version. This type is available from authorized bullion dealers and coin dealers. Another version is called the collectible proof version. This version is minted each year right from the United States Mint. These come with a case and a certificate proving authenticity. The final version is the uncirculated or burnished version. The uncirculated is the most recent and carries the "W" mark and is branded on burnished specialty coin blanks.
American Silver Eagle coins are hugely popular among both coin collectors and precious metal collectors. This coin is referred to as the silver dollar of modern day by many collectors. Series dates are very important and sought after by collectors.
