There is no doubt that adware popup ads are annoying; the appearance of just a couple of them is enough for you to get distracted from whatever it is that you are meant to be doing. In fact, quite often it can lead to you using your computer less because you can not be bothered with the hassle of dealing with the popups. Fortunately, there are ways that you can spare your computer from these adware attacks.
The simplest defense against them is to change the privacy settings on your computer. Do not worry though, it is not necessary to be a computer expert to do so, you just have to be able to follow a few instructions..
The first thing to do is to click on the Control Panel option on your Start Menu. Double click on the Internet Options Icon, and then click on the Privacy Tab. There is a box that you will see next to Turn on Popup Blocker. Check this box and that's it, you've just learnt how to block adware popups.
When you've done this you might also need to adjust the privacy levels on your computer. If you prefer, you could also download the MSN and Google Toolbars for more protection. Both of these toolbars will enhance the security of your web browsers.
The only real problem, when you may need the help of an expert, or at least to do some extra research on yourself, is if the popup ads are the result of adware and spyware, and repeatedly come back, no matter what you do. Unfortunately, simply learning how to block adware popups may not be enough if your computer has already been infested with spyware or adware.
It is also likely that your computer has adware if your home page on your web browser has been changed to a different and unfamiliar webpage. If this is the case, then you really need to remove the adware that has already installed itself. Use an anti adware program to detect any spyware or adware so that you can delete it. Delete unfamiliar programs through the Add or Remove Programs tool in your Control Panel.
Should your adware popups problem still exist after following these steps then you will need to seek professional help in order to resolve the issue.
